Camp Blazing Trails had a great Thursday! We welcomed our first special guest of the summer, Ms. Stacie, from the Museum of Natural Science! She taught us a lot about bugs! We also had a lot of fun in archery, and everyone earned a TON of beads!
Ms. Stacie had a lot of fun bug toys that she passed around and let everyone touch while she was talking about the different types of bugs
The Arawaks learned a lot about the difference between centipedes and millipedes!
Rosie the rose-colored tarantula...Ms. Stacie passed the cage around so everyone could get a close-up look at the spider!
Rosie was very patient with everyone handling her cage, and sat there peacefully
The Arawaks were all fascinated by the scorpion preserved in ethel alcohol!
While the Arawaks were listening to Ms. Stacie, a wasp flew by with a grasshopper in its clutches. Ms. Stacie had us all gather around it so we could watch it take its meal to its home!
After the wasp turned around in its hole, it popped back out and drug the grasshopper down! It was quite fascinating!
And there it goes, down the hole for the wasp's lunch!
Ms. Stacie showing us some beneficial bugs, such as bumblebees, dragonflies, honeybees, and ladybugs
A Chinese mantis
Beetles...lots of them!
Hissing cockroaches from Madagascar! Almost all of the Arawaks touched one and made them hiss!
They hissed very loudly!
Snails!
We loved Ms. Stacie the Bug Lady! She reminded us a little of Ms. Frizzle from the Magic School Bus, since she was dressed in a bug outfit and had spider earrings. Plus, she was a really great teacher for the morning!
Archery is very popular here at Camp Blazing Trails, mainly because it's a great opportunity to earn LOTS of beads! We like to say it rains beads at camp!
We had a great day of archery, with a couple bullseyes in both the Takotas and the Arawaks! Great job, Camp Blazing Trails!
